For the office bound, HELLO ! haven't their bosses heard of the amazingly competent software allowing them to operate their PCs remotely? With http://www.gotomypc.co.uk/tr/em/tReceipt/tmpl/trialReceipt_60B?UserId=markperl@thegurugarage.co.uk available at a highly affordable price it's surely better to help staff to work from home, productively, than to have them waste all that time braving the elements, distruptions, tail-backs, cancellations and other impediments to commuter travel to arrive at empty workplaces? Most people were told to go home when they arrived anyway. What a waste of time. I understand there is still a huge lack of trust between managers and their staff which demands they must trek to offices where they can be seen and be supervised and I also understand the human need to participate in the social interaction offered in employ, but when the elements intervene in the normal flow of things does the disruption have to be this complete? Really, does it!?
So what of the rest of us...
All Hail the disruptions!
It was a delight to see the snowy white-out from my window and to catch up on all those outstanding or parked tasks that have been building up. Emails to contacts whom I haven't spoken to for a while - just to say 'Hi'.
Staying in touch is The Networkers currency ! Did you spend your currency reserves wisely these past few days? Was it a shut down for you? ...or did you manage your time well?
- Surfing to interesting current affaires sites which attract your interest, to keep you current and informed.
- Did you take time to read up on such newsy topics as the Twitter phenomena sweeping the social media firmament?
- Did you review your personal goals and objectives to help stay on track in these challenging times
- Did you review your marketing activities
- Did you use the time to write some publish-worthy article, to help others and to highlight your expertise
- Did you pay outstanding bills and generally continue to be productive by clearing the administrative tasks that so pervade our domestic lives?
The question, over this shut-down is did YOU shut down ?
Thankfully I was able to take a breath, do many of these things and feel, whilst busy, that it was at a seemingly less frenetic pace than normal. All this, while the somewhat eerie silence from the snowy lanscape of my garden curled around my home office and soothed my consciousness; broken only by the laughter of childer at play.
I loved it. I hope you did tooYou know where to find me if I can help you...
